The landscape of disability sports in Europe has seen remarkable strides, with events like the Paralympic Games and Special Olympics gaining prominence. However, the emphasis on competition and results often overshadows the need for inclusive and recreational sports. Significant barriers remain, including limited accessible facilities, insufficient training for coaches, and a lack of inclusive sports events. The SportWay project emerges as a beacon of change, aiming to dismantle these barriers and promote a culture of inclusivity and fun in sports.

The SportWay project sets itself apart through its innovative approach by creating inclusive sports events where everyone—participants with or without special needs, event organizers, and volunteers—can engage equally. This inclusive ethos is not only the heart of the project but also a testament to its spirit, as it is driven by individuals with special needs and other marginalized groups. The project envisions gathering over 2500 participants, serving as a model of best practice to be shared and expanded across Europe. By collaborating with partners in Italy and Austria, the project seeks to exchange knowledge and spread this successful model, aligning with the EU’s broader goals of social inclusion, health, and wellbeing.

SportWay’s objectives are multifaceted. It strives to increase the involvement of disadvantaged individuals in local sports clubs, fostering a deeper sports culture that celebrates fair play and camaraderie. By hosting inclusive sports events in Slovenia, Italy, and Austria, and engaging in transnational meetings, the project aims to share its practices and outcomes widely. Volunteering is also a cornerstone of the project, enhancing community engagement and active citizenship. portWay champions the spirit of fair play, creating a space where creativity, cooperation, and tolerance thrive, setting a new standard for inclusive sports across Europe.
