On 26 September 2025, Vienna will come alive with more than just games—it will echo with stories of inclusion, belonging, and the transformative power of sport. The first SportWay inclusive event in Austria, anchored in values of diversity and equity, brings together around 250 kids, at least half of whom are expected to be of migrant origin. This multicultural mix, ranging from 8–10-year-old schoolchildren to youngsters with disabilities from special institutions, embodies the essence of SportWay’s mission: sport accessible to everyone, irrespective of background or ability.

A Playground for Connection and Understanding

Imagine a blind obstacle course, where sighted and visually impaired children help each other navigate challenges. Picture blind football, where the sounds of soccer balls lead not just to goals but to mutual trust. Alongside, basketball and volleyball tournaments unfold with mixed teams, where abilities aren’t boundaries but bridges. A karate showcase invites everyone to learn, to move together, and to share strength beyond words. These inclusive activities do far more than entertain—they cultivate empathy, dissolve stereotypes, and foster a sense of shared humanity.

Unity Through Local Collaboration

SportWay Vienna is made possible by a powerful coalition of local partners: Vienna United Basketball Club, Volleyball Club Sokol, Kids in Motion, the Austrian Red Cross – Youth Section, Shōtōkan Karate-Dō Wien, Jöö’s Gymnastics Club, Gin Association for Community Integration and Normalisation and more. Their combined expertise ensures that every game, every moment, is both fun and meaningful. More than co-organizers, they are co-creators in building a space where every child feels seen and valued.

Beyond the Field: Inclusion as a Lifelong Value

The impact of the Vienna event won’t end when the whistle blows. It’s part of a broader vision: to redefine how sport is experienced across Europe. SportWay aims not just to host events, but to set new norms—embedding inclusive practices into community sports, developing guidelines, and creating a fair-play checklist that inspires change beyond one event. By weaving inclusion into the fabric of the European Week of Sport and everyday club activities, SportWay strives for a lasting legacy.

A Call to Action for All of Us

As the event approaches, SportWay invites sports clubs, schools, youth organizations—and every stakeholder who believes in inclusive sport—to pay attention. As those children pass the ball, navigate the obstacle course, or cheer each other on, they are learning something much bigger than competition. They are a learning community. They are learning that inclusion isn’t an add-on—it’s the foundation of sport.
